Five members of USKU NZ travelled to Napier over the weekend for Shotokan Karate Hawke's Bay's 9th Gasshuku and Competition to learn from AJKA International chief instructor Edmond Otis sensei.
Friday's session focused on kihon, with Saturday and Sunday's session focusing on kumite principles and kata respectively.
Some themes that were introduced during the weekend and reinforced throughout the seminar included timing of combinations, breathing and the use of snapping techniques to get the body in an optimal position for subsequent attacks.
During Saturday afternoon a competition was held for the 60 plus members in attendance. Congratulations to those USKU NZ members who competed, and to those who placed in the top three for their categories.
Once again a valuable weekend and a 'level up' for those who attended. Great to have also caught up with other Shotokan clubs from around the country and train together.
